Material Graph Node Name bug

The node name in the mat graph won’t accept changes in names sometimes. Has something to do with capital letters, but I can’t nail down what the variables are. Rename a node in the Node Name field in the mat graph, and if you keep the caps in the name, it doesn’t rename. If you change whether it has or doesn’t have caps, it work renames-

Current Name New Namr
Red Glass -> red glass won’t work
Red Glass-> rEd glAss will work
red glass -> Red Glass won’t work
RED GLASS -> Red Glass will work
Red Glass -> Red glass will work

but its random, i just went back and tested a few and the results were inconsistent. I think it is going from using caps to not using caps or v/v is where its not working.

Hello Matt,
I apologize for the delayed response.

Regarding the issue, it seems like the problem could be related to a rule for naming nodes in the material graph, namely, Node names must be unique within the graph.

Could this be cause of the issue you’re experiencing? If not, could you perhaps provide more details on how to reproduce the problem?

Again sorry for the late response…

jepp - every name variation works, when unique as node name (tested in 2025.1 beta)

OK, I think it is sorted out, i can’t reproduce the error, but methinks it was a factor of naming nodes that were NOT unique, and some combination of trying to figure it out with different types of nodes and such.

So, mark as solved
